Ever tried that Sharpie on a plate pin? I have. Don't be fooled, Sharpie markers are an awesome product (LOVE IT!), but they don't stay permanent on everything. Eventually the marker is going to wipe off (some sooner than others). However, if you really have your heart set on that style of home made gift- try using an oil paint based marker or even better, a ceramic paint pen. Our plate has been used several times and still looks as good as it did the first day!
